54 U.S.C. § 103306 — Studies

(a) Study of Battlefields for Commemorative Purposes.— The Secretary of the Army can study, investigate, and, when needed, survey any battlefield within the continental United States where U.S. troops, or troops of the original 13 colonies, fought a common enemy. The goal is to prepare a general plan, and detailed projects if needed, to properly commemorate those battlefields or nearby sites of historic and military interest. (b) Inclusion of Estimate of Cost of Projected Surveys in Appropriation Estimates.— Each year, the Secretary of the Army must include in the Interior Department's appropriation estimates a list of battlefields planned for survey or field investigation that fiscal year, along with the estimated cost of each one. (c) Purchase of Real Estate for National Military Park Purposes.— The federal government cannot buy real estate for a national military park unless the Secretary of the Army has first reported on that real estate to Congress through the President, under subsection (d). (d) Report to Congress.— Each year, the Secretary of the Army must send Congress, through the President, a detailed report on progress under this subchapter, with recommendations for further work.
