54 U.S.C. § 300307 — Historic preservation review commission

In this division, the term "historic preservation^* review commission" means a board, council^*, commission, or other similar collegial body that meets two conditions: (1) it is established by state^* or local legislation, as described in section 302503(a)(2) of this title; and (2) its members are appointed by the jurisdiction's chief elected official (unless state or local law lets another official appoint them), chosen from among: (A) professionals in fields like architecture, history, architectural history, planning, prehistoric and historic archeology, folklore, cultural anthropology, curation, conservation, and landscape architecture, or related fields, as far as those professionals are available in the community; and (B) other individuals who have shown special interest, experience, or knowledge in history, architecture, or related fields, in numbers enough to make the commission adequate and qualified.
