16 U.S.C. § 460z–10 — Advisory Council

(a) Establishment; membership. The Secretary must create an advisory council for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and regularly consult it on managing and developing the area. The council has up to 15 members, each serving staggered three-year terms, appointed by the Secretary as follows: (i) one member for each county containing part of the recreation area, chosen by that county's governing body; (ii) one member representing Oregon, chosen by the Governor; (iii) up to 11 members chosen by the Secretary from people interested in the recreation area's management, whether individually or through groups; and (iv) the Secretary names one member as Chairman and fills any vacancies the same way the original member was appointed. (b) Private viewpoints. Besides consulting the council, the Secretary must also seek out views from other private groups and individuals about managing the recreation area. (c) Payment of expenses. Council members get no pay for serving, but the Secretary may pay their reasonable expenses for council work.
