16 U.S.C. § 8501 — Promotion of outdoor recreation for military servicemembers and veterans

This section is one undivided provision with a numbered list. Within 2 years after January 4, 2025, the agency in charge ("the Secretary concerned"), working with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and the Secretary of Defense, must create educational and public-awareness materials for members of the Armed Forces and veterans. These must be shared, in part, through the preseparation counseling given under the Transition Assistance Program (title 10, chapter 1142). The materials must cover: (1) chances for service members and veterans to visit federal recreational lands and waters for free under section 6804; (2) where to find accessible trails, including new ones built under section 8484; (3) where to find accessible recreation opportunities, including new ones built under section 8485; (4) access to, and help with, assistive technology; (5) outdoor-related volunteer and wellness programs; (6) how outdoor recreation benefits physical and mental health; (7) resources for guided outdoor trips and other outdoor programs connected to the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of the Interior, or Department of Agriculture; and (8) national-service programs and jobs, such as the Public Land Corps, AmeriCorps, and conservation corps programs.
