March 9 is named U.S. Hostage and Wrongful Detainee Day. The President is asked, not required, to declare this day each year with ceremonies and activities.

The President is requested to issue each year a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe U.S. Hostage and Wrongful Detainee Day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
