36 U.S.C. § 153702 — Purposes

The corporation's purposes are: (1) To perpetuate the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic — since the National Woman's Relief Corps is its auxiliary, organized at its request in 1883 — and of the men who saved the Union from 1861 to 1865. (2) To help preserve, and make available for research, documents and records about the Grand Army of the Republic and its members. (3) To cooperate in honoring everyone who has served the country patriotically in any war. (4) To teach patriotism, the duties of citizenship, the true history of the country, and love and honor of the flag. (5) To oppose any tendency or movement that would weaken loyalty to the constitutional Union, or destroy or damage it. (6) To teach and broadly support the American principles of representative government, equal rights, and impartial justice for everyone.
