10 U.S.C. § 20601 — Officers: voluntary retirement for length of service

A Space Force officer can ask to retire after 20 years of service, with at least 10 as a commissioned officer, and the Air Force Secretary may grant it. At 30 years, the President may grant retirement at the officer's request. At 40 years, retirement on request is automatic, with one listed exception.
(a) Twenty Years or More. The Secretary of the Air Force may, if the officer* asks, retire a Space Force commissioned officer* who has at least 20 years of service (computed under section 20602), including at least 10 years of active service* as a commissioned officer.
(b) Thirty Years or More. A Space Force commissioned officer with at least 30 years of service may be retired at their own request, but only if the President decides to grant it.
(c) Forty Years or More. Except as section 20503 provides otherwise, a Space Force commissioned officer with at least 40 years of service must be retired if they ask.
The Secretary of the Air Force may, upon the officer’s request, retire a commissioned officer* of the Space Force who has at least 20 years of service computed under section 20602 of this title, at least 10 years of which have been active service* as a commissioned officer*.
A commissioned officer of the Space Force who has at least 30 years of service computed under section 20602 of this title may be retired upon the officer’s request, in the discretion of the President.
Except as provided in section 20503 of this title, a commissioned officer of the Space Force who has at least 40 years of service computed under section 20602 of this title shall be retired upon the officer’s request.
