16 U.S.C. § 441f — Adjustment and redefinition of boundaries

This section lets the Secretary of the Interior redraw Badlands National Park's boundary lines. The goal is to create a more sensible boundary for the park and to consolidate federal land ownership within it. To do this, the Secretary — using his own discretion — may adjust and redefine the park's exterior boundaries. That can mean adding land or removing land, as appropriate. There's a cap, though: however the boundaries get revised under this section and the sections following it (441f through 441i), the park's total acreage cannot go above approximately 154,119 acres — the size the park was as of May 7, 1952. So the Secretary can reshuffle the park's edges, but cannot grow the park beyond that fixed ceiling.
