51 U.S.C. § 40904 — Microgravity research

NASA's Administrator must do two things. First, keep up the ability to support ground-based research that leads to space-based basic and applied science, across a range of fields, where the unique conditions of microgravity and space can significantly advance research with direct national benefits. Second, carry out — as much as practical — basic, applied, and commercial research on the International Space Station, in fields such as molecular crystal growth, animal research, basic fluid physics, combustion research, cellular biotechnology, low-temperature physics, and cellular research, at a level that keeps the United States' existing scientific expertise and research ability in microgravity research strong.
