NASA and the National Science Foundation must share their research data with forecasters. They must also support turning that data into forecasting models. In return, NOAA must share its operational forecasting data with researchers.
(a) In General. NASA's Administrator* and the National Science Foundation's Director must keep: (1) making space weather data gathered for scientific research available to space weather forecasters and operations centers; and (2) supporting the development of forecasting models and their use in space weather forecasting.
(b) Research. NOAA's Administrator, in the other direction, must make space weather data gathered from operational forecasting available for research.
The Administrator* of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration* and the Director of the National Science Foundation shall continue to—
make space weather-related data obtained for scientific research purposes available to space weather forecasters and operations centers; and
support model development and model applications to space weather forecasting.
The Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shall make space weather-related data obtained from operational forecasting available for research.
